Down with voting standards
A paper by way of A. Francis Bardwell describing the Bardwell Votometer was reprinted in the June 6 1901 issue of AMERICAN MACHINIST. Bardwell's novel voting machine promised, "to interrupt the possibility of fraud or accidental or intentional disfranchisement of an elector." The voter used the machine by the agency of taking a key, inserting it into the keyhole corresponding to the party or candidate, and giving it a half divert therefore registering the vote.
As an aside to the paper, AM reported upon the comments of a
